What to expect

If you have never received a massage, let alone a "sports" massage, please read on. Your life could change!

Most people are able to receive a sports massage, however there are a number of conditions that prevent massage being applied or need permission or acceptance from your GP. These are known as "contraindications" to massage. As such a brief medical history will be taken from you, together with basic details about you and the reasons you are seeking treatment.

After a brief chat about you, your lifestyle, physical problems and expectations, your posture may be looked at in terms of trying to determine physical functional and structural issues you may have, which could be contributing to your conditions. As such you must be prepared to have your body looked at. This is normally done clothed. For the treatment you will be asked to get down to your underwear. i pride myself on keeping my clients fulled covered by a towel during treatments, with only the area being worked on exposed. This is the minimum anyone should expect during any bodywork treatment.

The treatment is always a two way process with your feed back being as much a part of the process as the physical "hands on" application. Simarlarly you may be asked to undertake strength or stretching exercises as part of your rehabilitation. Recovery is greatly enhanced by someone who is focused on a return to fitness. Consider this as your homework!
